Soubrettes abusives, par Philippe Faure
Chair n°6, Tina Scherzberg, 2006
In a playful yet serious way « Chair 06 » refers to the British artist Allen Jones’ sculpture « Chair ». It has been the intention of the director to work with the different meanings of that work, and focus on making a portrait of a woman that tries to examine what it means to transform herself into an object.
Portrait by Allen Jones
In 1970, the British artist Allen Jones received a call from Stanley Kubrick. The director had recently seen Jones’s exhibition featuring controversial fibreglass sculptures of curvaceous, provocatively dressed women functioning as tables, hat stands and chairs. Kubrick was filming an adaptation of A Clockwork Orange and felt that Jones’s furniture would create the look he was after.
